Your brand, the vet formula

Every brand calculator below runs the identical RER/MER engine — the only difference is the food's energy density, pre-loaded from the label so you don't have to hunt for it. Brand-neutral on purpose: the same dog gets the same calories whichever bag you buy.

A brand page on this site is a convenience, not an endorsement: the food's measured energy density is pre-loaded so the veterinary formula can run without you hunting a label. That distinction matters because label densities are the one input brands genuinely control — and the one most feeding mistakes trace back to, since two foods both called 'chicken and rice' can differ by 70 kcal per 100 g. If your exact formula is not listed, its kcal/kg is printed on every bag by law in most markets; divide by ten and any calculator here becomes your brand's calculator. Portions then depend only on your dog: ideal weight, life stage, and the treat budget you choose to keep.

One more thing the cards cannot show: density changes when a brand reformulates, sometimes without any change to the front of the bag. That is why every brand calculator here treats its pre-loaded number as a starting point and puts the kcal field one tap away — the label in your hand is always the most current source, and this site would rather teach you to read it than pretend a database can be fresher than your pantry shelf.

Why not just use the brand's own calculator?

Because a manufacturer's calculator has one job you're not seeing: it can only ever recommend its own food, at portions its charts were built around. Independent testing of feeding guides routinely finds them calibrated for intact, active dogs — while most pets are neutered and, frankly, couch-adjacent. The result is a systematic 10–30% overfeed.

Here, the brand supplies only one thing — its kcal density — and the formula supplies the rest. If your exact formula isn't listed, any calculator on this site accepts its kcal/100 g directly from your bag's label (kcal/kg ÷ 10).

Questions

Frequently asked

Are the brand kcal values exact?

They are representative defaults for each brand's best-known adult lines, printed on the card and editable in one tap. Formulas vary inside a brand — Purina alone spans roughly 350–410 kcal/100 g — so for precision, enter your bag's kcal/kg ÷ 10.

My brand is not listed — what do I use?

Any calculator on this site: choose the custom food option and enter your label's kcal/100 g. The brand pages are a convenience (density pre-loaded), not a different formula.

Do brands pay to be listed here?

No. Placement inside calculations is never for sale; brands appear because owners search for them, and every brand runs through the identical engine.

How are the brands on this page chosen?

By owner search volume and international availability: these are the brands whose grams get asked for most. The list grows through requests on the contact page, not through commercial agreements — and a listed brand gets no softer arithmetic than any other.
