Wet & Dry Dog Food Mix Calculator
Mixing is where portions go wrong — people add wet food on top of a full dry portion. Set the split you want; each food is calculated only for its share of the day's calories.

The ratio is by CALORIES, not by volume — that is the mistake everyone makes.
50/50 mix portions by weight
| Dog weight | Daily kcal | Wet food (85/100g) | Dry food (370/100g) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5 kg | 374 kcal | 220 g | 51 g |
| 10 kg | 630 kcal | 370 g | 85 g |
| 15 kg | 854 kcal | 502 g | 115 g |
| 20 kg | 1,059 kcal | 623 g | 143 g |
| 25 kg | 1,252 kcal | 737 g | 169 g |
| 30 kg | 1,436 kcal | 845 g | 194 g |
| 40 kg | 1,781 kcal | 1,048 g | 241 g |

The one rule of mixing: calories split, volume doesn't
A gram of wet food carries about a quarter of the energy of a gram of kibble. 'Half a tin plus half the usual kibble' therefore delivers far more than half-and-half — it delivers about 125% of the day. Split the calories first, then convert each share with its own food's density, as this calculator does.
Practical ratios: 25% wet is the classic topper strategy (palatability boost, modest cost); 50/50 balances cost and enjoyment; 100% wet suits dogs with dental issues or precise vet-directed plans. Whichever you choose, transition over a week.

Frequently asked
Can I mix wet and dry food in the same bowl?
Yes — digestion handles mixed meals fine for most dogs. What matters is the day's total calories, not meal architecture.
How much wet food equals 100 g of kibble?
At typical densities (370 vs 85 kcal/100 g), 100 g of kibble ≈ 435 g of wet food in calories. Volume is not a conversion — calories are.
Should the ratio change for weight loss?
Wet-heavy mixes help: more volume and water per calorie means a fuller bowl at deficit calories. Many weight plans run 50–75% wet for exactly this reason.
How many calories does a 10 kg dog need?
A neutered 10 kg dog has an RER of 394 kcal and a daily target (MER) of 630 kcal. On typical kibble (370 kcal/100 g) that is about 153 g/day with the treat allowance already removed.
What is the most common calorie-counting mistake?
Forgetting treats and table scraps — they quietly add 20–30%. Everything that goes in counts inside the target, not on top of it.
